First a net honey with horse.

A recent Hipbone Studio session (two nights actually)

A canyon photo from a CD of pictures that came with a program -the vast majority of which were junk. Trying to slather more (see Edgar Payne). This had an ochre yellow undertone that largely disappeared.

And a copy of a Jean Beraud from a couple years ago. Ahh the Belle Epoque -I'm thinking the poo scraper was pretty glad to have the gig. When it was done I found her head/torso too high and left. So- plan a head.

[and the layout software still bites]

First a still-landscape of hostas in my backyard in mid-summer.

a copy of a photo of some callas from somewhere. A lot of thin layers -took forever.

2 babes - the first is goth grrl again and the second is a good likeness if one isn't particular about the placement of features. I'm still not sure just what went wrong.

Been using a 3/4" soft brush a lot --wet-in-wet with fairly thin layers. So far we're getting along well, with no splaying. This last was mostly done with it -its an Alaska photo from wetcanvas.com.

a couple from Hipbone Studio recently:

Both had pose-shifting problems. The gal on the left had an offbeat beauty that came out too harsh somehow. I saw the next day how the hair treatment kinda underscored the whole George Washington thing. d'oh

A quite unauthorized copy of a Kathryn Stats out of a magazine. Reached the limits of my patience but I really admire her control of color.

Another found photo:

And a Velasquez back when I could handle such things.

Washington Park in the fall.

some portraits from photos

these are a flattered a bit by the photos which can even out my blotchy skin tones. The last gal has some eye position problems -poor thing.
his challenge was how the color would fade to near gray in subtle ways- while avoiding muddy color

And one from the Japanese Garden from last year that I've tinkered with a few times.

net photo again -trying some things from a great book of Zhaoming Wu's work I got recently.
-softer darks and blending the subject with the background- also pushing the color here and there.

recent session at Hipbone Studio

Hoyt Arboretum from a while back.

and a copy of a Morgan Weistling I gave my mom.

another from a Hoyt Arboretum photo.
23X16

a one-nighter figure from Thurs night at Hipbone studio.

and an Frank Frazetta copy a year or two back. He claims he did these without source material or models- just pulled them out of his head. Amazing.

from a Hoyt Arboretum photo. Color seems a little oversaturated when seen in daylight.

and a copy of a Thayer from last year.

new year

portrait study from a net
photo -at halfway and done.
As is common I've added a couple years to her, but I figure if it were a commision I'd do like the shoe salesmen.
"Trust me, dey'll grow into it"

and a landscape from Crystal Springs Garden

and may I say again
these layout tools are worth every penny.
